Time-Off Guidelines

The Commencement Committee acknowledges volunteers who help usher at the Cornell University December Recognition Event for January Degree Candidates, and informs department supervisors to ensure that volunteers are appropriately recognized by the following arrangements:

All Nonexempt and Exempt staff who volunteer to usher during the University December Recognition Event for January Degree Candidates on Saturday, December 20, 2008, will be granted complimentary time off equivalent to one-half of his/her standard work day. Volunteers should inform their immediate supervisors of their decision to volunteer.

All volunteers are expected to attend an orientation meeting on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Barton Hall. The orientation will be from 9:00-9:30 a.m. Then all volunteers will go to their assignments at 9:45 a.m. until approximately 12:30 p.m.

The complimentary time off should be scheduled so as not to disrupt normal work activities and must be approved by the volunteer’s immediate supervisor. It must be used by June 30, 2009.

Nonexempt staff using the complimentary time off should enter “paid leave” in the time collection system on the day it is used.

Exempt staff should indicate this according to the procedure established within their department to track time off.

If there are any questions, please contact Lauran Jacoby, lj14@cornell.edu, or 255-6894.
