Following University Commencement on Sunday, graduates and guests will attend college/department events where diplomas are awarded. Please note that some departments have events on Friday or Saturday, in addition to diploma pick-up on Sunday.

What should guests know?
Please make sure everyone in your party knows the student's college & department so they can look up the event location or ask for directions.

Will my graduate escort me to the college event?
No. Because graduates exit the stadium differently than guests, please plan to meet your graduate at the college/department event.

How are college events different than Commencement?
University Commencement is attended by all degree candidates from all colleges within the university. Degrees are conferred en masse at Commencement; students do not cross stage or receive diplomas at University Commencement.

Where do graduates get diplomas?
Diplomas are distributed at colleges/departments on Sunday, per above schedule.

What are college events?
These are smaller events for students of a particular college or department, rather than the entire university. Event details vary, but may include individual recognition (students cross stage, name is read aloud), speeches, and/or a reception. Diplomas are given at college/department events on Sunday afternoon.

Why does my department have an event on Saturday as well as Sunday?
Although some departments have events on Friday or Saturday, diplomas are not distributed prior to degree conferrals at University Commencement on Sunday. Therefore, graduates who have Friday or Saturday events will still need to pick up their diploma on Sunday afternoon.

How do I get to the college event?
Plan to walk or ride a bus to the bus stop closest to the event.

How do I know which bus stop is closest to my event?
On Commencement day, a campus map noting event locations campus map noting ceremony locations and bus stops will be included in the Commencement Program handed out at the stadium.

How do mobility-impaired guests get to college events?
Instructions are outlined in a letter that's mailed with mobility-impaired permits. In general, Option 2 guests will walk to certain locations, or take a bus to others. Option 1 guests will walk/wheel to certain locations, or follow turn-by-turn directions to drop off their family member near other locations then search for a place to park.

When do events end?
College events have varying starting and ending times. However, nearly all campus events have finished by 3:30pm.
